Some changes are big. This one is small, but you will probably notice it the first time you write more than a line in the owner app. Since October 10, the box where you type a message grows as you write.
What was wrong before
The box where you write to Sinan, or where you reply to one of your customers, stayed one line tall no matter how much you typed. A short "yes, that works" fit. Anything longer didn't. Once your message ran past the first line, you lost sight of the beginning and wrote the rest without seeing what came before.
That matters more than it sounds. A message to a customer is often more than one line: an answer about an order, a note about when something is ready, an apology and what you will do about it. When you write to Sinan, you are often explaining something: what you want done, what to keep in mind, what to leave alone. Typing either one into a one-line slot means sending something you couldn't reread properly. That's how a typo, a missing word or a sentence that changes direction halfway gets sent.
What changed
- The box grows as you type. It gets taller with each new line, up to six lines.
- After six lines, it scrolls. The box stops growing at six lines, so it doesn't take over the screen. For a longer message, you scroll inside the box.
- Enter sends, Shift+Enter starts a new line. When you want a line break, for a short list or a greeting on its own line, hold Shift and press Enter.
- It shrinks back after you send. Once the message is gone, the box goes back to one line, ready for the next one.
This works in every owner app, on the phone and on the computer. There's nothing to turn on.
Where you'll notice it
Mostly in two places.
Replying to a customer. When you answer a customer yourself, you can now see all of a reply, or most of a long one, before you send it. You can read it the way your customer will, from top to bottom, instead of a piece at a time.
Writing to Sinan. When you ask Sinan for something, it helps to say it clearly. A goal with some context (what it's for, what matters, what to avoid) usually takes a few lines. Now those lines stay in front of you while you write. You can also split them up with Shift+Enter, which makes the message easier to read for you and for Sinan.
What it doesn't change
This change is only about the box you type in. It doesn't change what Sinan does with your message, and it doesn't change the rule Sinan works under. Anything that can't be undone, like a refund or a cancellation, still waits for your tap. A longer message to Sinan is still just a message. It isn't an approval.
It also only applies to the owner apps, where you work. The chat your customers use isn't part of this change.
Why we bother with small things
Most of what you do in the owner app is quick: you check what needs you, tap yes or no, and write a line or two. The app should stay out of your way while you do that. A message box that hides half of what you've written gets in the way a little every time you write more than one line. We'd rather fix that than leave it.
If something else in the owner app gets in your way like this, tell us.
