A few months ago we added a button to the Home screen: tap Listen and Sinan reads you a short spoken summary of what's happening in your shop instead of making you scroll through numbers. You can ask for a quick Brief or a longer Detailed version, depending on whether you've got thirty seconds or five minutes.
Until now, that voice only spoke English. If you run your shop in French or German, Sinan still understood you fine in chat, but the briefing would switch back to English the moment you tapped Listen. That mismatch bothered us more than it should have, honestly, because the whole point of a spoken briefing is that it should feel like someone on your team talking to you, not like a tool that only half fits.
What changed
Sinan now reads your briefing out loud in English, French or German. It doesn't ask you to pick a language in a settings menu somewhere, it follows whatever language you're already using in the app. If you've set things up in French, Listen speaks French. Switch to German, and the next briefing comes back in German.
That matters more than it might sound like at first. A spoken briefing is supposed to save you the effort of reading through your orders, your messages, and your to-dos every morning. If the voice doesn't match the language you think in, you end up translating in your head while you listen, which defeats the purpose. Now the briefing should feel like it's actually speaking your language, literally.
Why we built this now
We've got shop owners running their stores in French and German, and for them the Listen button has been a half-finished feature since the day we launched it: useful in theory, awkward in practice. Voice is supposed to be the fastest way to catch up on your shop, faster than reading, something you can do while you're making coffee or walking to open up. An English-only voice got in the way of that for anyone not running their business in English.
- Brief still gives you the short version: what needs your attention right now.
- Detailed still gives you the longer walkthrough, for when you've got the time.
- Both now come in whichever of the three languages matches how you're using the app.
We didn't build a language picker because we didn't think you should have to tell Sinan something it can already see. If you're reading your orders in German, you shouldn't have to separately tell it that your ears also prefer German.
What's still English-only
This change is specifically about the spoken briefing. We're not claiming every part of Sinan speaks three languages yet, this is the voice feature catching up to where the rest of the app already was. If there are corners of Sinan that still answer you in English when you'd rather they didn't, that's fair feedback, and it's the kind of thing we look at next based on what shop owners tell us matters most.
We also want to be upfront that French and German are the two we added, not a general promise of every language eventually. We'd rather ship the two we could actually test properly and get right than announce a long list and have some of them sound off.
If you run your shop in French or German, tap Listen and you'll hear the difference immediately. If something sounds wrong, or there's a term Sinan should use differently in your language, tell us, that's exactly the kind of detail that makes a second language in a product like this actually usable instead of just technically present.
